Chile is a South American country surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. Hip Hop in Chile began during the mid 1980s. At first, breakdancers brought the culture into Chile, specifically the capital, Santiago. Groups such as Panteras Negras and La Pozze Latina began rhyming in the early 1990s. It wasn't until the mid 1990s that a wave of Hip Hop swept the youth. There is a bustling undeground movement presently. Two leading groups include Sinsimil MCs (Myspace page) and Tiro de Gracia (Myspace page). Emcees rap in Spanish.
