Hip Hop in Botswana focuses on freedom of expression, as opposed to other themes such as gangsterism and challenging the government.. Emcees rap in English and Tswana. Motswako is a local style of rap that is not synonmous with Hip Hop. Music from South Africa is big in Botswana.

Phat Boy records is an important label in Botswana. There are radio shows and magazines entirely devoted to Hip Hop. Two members of the Cashless Society Crew, Draztik (Myspace page) and Slim, host the radio show "Stricly Hip Hop." Cashless Society (Myspace page) are based in Johannesburg, South Africa but also have members from Sierra Leone and Malawi, along with Botswana and South Africa.
