Algeria, a north African country bordering Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, the Mediterranean Sea, Tunisia, Libya, and Niger, has its share of Hip Hop artists. Each of Algeria's cities is a hub of Hip Hop. Algiers is home to two famous groups: Intik (Myspace page) and Micro Brise Le Silence aka MBS [Microphone Breaks the Silence] (site in French). Intik rap in Arabic and French over funk-driven beats. MBS also rap in Arabic and French employing a varied sound. Oran is also home to many Hip Hop groups.

Algerian emcees haven't been able to break the mainstream of Algerian music. Standing in their way is a genre called raï.

Emcees of Algerian ancestry living in France include Freeman and Imhotep of IAM. Sinik (Wikipedia) is an emcee of Algerian descent, who also lives in France.
